  • Today starts the 2016 “No Sugar” Challenge. The purpose of this is to help us to see how reducing sugar makes us feel, and to help us reduce our overall dependency on sweet tastes.

For me personally, the day was pretty decent. I absentmindedly ate a bite of my daughter’s graham cracker but did not eat any more after that. I had no breakfast (rushed morning), and for lunch, we went to the Fatz Restaurant where I had the fried fish, hushpuppies, coleslaw, fries, and a side salad (Sunday is when I eat my free meal).

    How about you?

I did great today, the only sweet I had was a sweet potato no sugar a little butter and a dash of cinnamon. 2 Grill chicken legs and a side kale salad with scarce salad dressing I could barely taste. Water to drink.
Thought about the Red Velvet cake wrapped up over there and the Neopolitan Ice cream in the freezer. Using my faith and works. Good day! No weapon formed and waiting for me shall prosper.

    • Great. It can be surprising how good a sweet potato is without adding sugar.

I know, didn’t need sugar. For supper I had some Ritz crackers and 1/2 grapefruit, with water.

  • Yesterday was good for me in regards to sugar cravings. I didn’t even think about sweets. Today was a little more of a challenge. I almost forgot about refraining from sugar for a second when I saw a bowl of holiday hershey’s kisses at work…almost absentmindedly grabbed a couple but then I remembered. Shows how we sabotage ourselves by running on autopilot!

Yesterday was smooth. I refrained for the sugar devil whispering in my ear to go ahead and get some sweet tea because my husband got some and it would be so refreshing. I was on a mission and didn’t touch it.
Today (the 3rd day) is usually very challenging but to my surprise I am not hurting for sugar. Not one grain of sugar has touched these lips.

    • Great…yeah it’s more challenging when you’re doing something different than your family, so I definitely salute that.

I am proud to say that I am still sugar free and will finish this challenge. Yes the diet Coke and sweet tea along side the red velvet cakettes have been screaming at me to forgo the challenge and obey my flesh but I stuck to my guns. The urge has lessened as each day goes by and I must say, I do see a difference in my weight too.
grapefruit and grapes have been my savior and also eating them in moderation.

    • Excellent! Great job with sticking to your guns and to eating that fruit!

  • The past couple of days have been good…but I realized that I accidentally messed up earlier today. I ate a hamburger out of rushing to meet a lunchtime appointment (yes, a burger), and I forgot that the burger would have ketchup, which has sugar. This challenge really reminds you about how many products out there have sugar in them.

Another challenge I’ve been having is that, since I’m avoiding sugar, I’ve subconsciously found myself more open to other less healthy foods…like the burgers, along with fries too.
