Announcing the No Bread, No Flour Food Challenge!

I am doing a No Bread, No Flour Food Challenge!  The details are as follows:

What: No breads or flour products (noodles, pastries, gravies (with flour), etc.) – not even whole wheat

When:  Monday, August 11th – Saturday, August 16th

Why:  To see if/how omitting breads and flours affects health and weight (which it definitely will affect); to wean from dependency on bread and flour products

“You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.” – 1 Corinthians 6:12 (NLT), emphasis mine

How to Participate:  Comment on this post every day about what you are doing to avoid these foods, how you feel, discussion about weight changes….anything meaningful.  I will be posting daily during the challenge as well.  Your best bet is to follow the comments to stay in the conversation

How Winner is Chosen:  A winner will be announced on Saturday in the comments, and will receive a copy of 50 Secrets of the World’s Longest Living People by Sally Beare

This is one of my favorite health-related books.  It contains very good tips on how to eat, and how to live in general, based on the lifestyles of four of the healthiest and longest living populations in the world.

If there is a tie, I will use a random number generator to select the winner.  The winner must already be subscribed to this blog.  If you are not subscribed yet, subscribe here.

See you on this post next week!  Feel free to share with a friend!

  • The challenge starts TODAY! Omitting bread and flour products seems hard at first, but if you prepare and have your alternatives ready, it can be relatively painless. My wife and I had yogurt parfaits with granola and boiled eggs for breakfast.

Remember to comment and to be a subscriber to qualify to win!

  • Day 4…how’s it going? Remember to comment if you want to qualify to win!

Breads and other flour containing products are often high in carbohydrates. Carbohydrates, or ‘carbs,’ are not bad, but often we eat too much in our society. Carbs give you energy, and when you consider that we move around a lot less in modern society, coupled with eating a lot more carbs, it is no wonder we have an obesity issue.
