Whole 30: Time for Slight Change for Us…

Hi all.  First of all, how is the Whole 30 Challenge coming?

For the most part, it has gone well with my family.  I had a thoughtless slip up this past weekend by buying Zaxby’s wings this weekend and assuming that the sauce should be fine.  Even if it was, the wings are deep fried.  #FAIL

Aside from that, things have been pretty good.

Our Change

My wife and I have decided that we are going to personally modify our Whole 30 Challenge to be somewhat vegetarian.  Why?  Two reasons:

  1. Whole 30 has a vegan/vegetarian plan as well
  2. We are getting tired of eating so much meat

Now, don’t get me wrong.  I like my meats.  However, several consecutive days of eating chicken had us to the point where we were really tired of eating it so much.  When you cut out certain things like beans, you almost have to increase your meat.  Vegetables can be increased, but there is only so much that a few more scoops of spinach will do to your stomach.  I know I have a witness out there somewhere.

The Whole 30 vegetarian plan allows for properly prepared legumes, as well as full-fat fermented dairy products like kefir and yogurt.  I believe this will be good for my family.  If we had seen this beforehand, we definitely would have done it then.

For everyone out there who is continuing to participate, stay strong.  By now, I am sure that you have seen and felt some results.  I am noticing that stomach fat is lessening, and my sweet tooth is getting slightly weaker.  How about you?

Yep I noticed my stomach fat went down a little only to return when I eat out and can’t taste the hidden salt in restaurant food. But otherwise I am feeling better.

    • Yeah, it’s hard to know what’s in the restaurant food, so the sodium can be high. The stomach fat probably won’t increase noticeably after one of those meals, so yeah, it’s probably water retention.

Home food is always best! That’s why I sorta blew it with those wings.

I’ve definitely lost my pregnancy weight, and then some. Our breastfed baby seems to be having less gas and it also seems that her skin rash is clearing up. My skin must be clearer as I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on it. And I feel great!

We went to the fair and all we had wS a turkey leg. It was very obvious it was injected with a salt solution. I was so hungry, I are it . The smells out there was incredible! Nothing green to eat and everything was fried of course. They had grilled. Chicken which was an option too. The leg did me in.

    • Yep…That turkey was probably about the most compliant thing to get out there.

Good job with skipping out on the funnel cakes, elephant ears, cotton candy and pecan rolls!

  • My stomach definitely has gotten flatter. I know it is not about weightloss but I’m loving the side effects. As far as the veggie version I don’t know about this go round I’ve got a pretty good routine with my meals so I’ll just stick it out. Maybe the next round I’ll get with you guys for more details. Lol

    • Lol, hey no problem man. Congrats with the flatter stomach, too. Hard to believe that we have only 9 days left with this Whole 30 challenge!

Today was a good controlled day. Very nice meal with the family, grilled fish, broccoli, green beans.

I dont know why but I’m a little headachy, maybe my body is reacting from a sugar deficency! Lol!!

    • I felt somewhat similar, too. With me though, I think it was my slight sleep deprivation, lol.

    Hello Shawn and Mrs McClendon,
Countdown, 10, 9, 8, 7,6,5,4…………What a great trip with Whole 30, yes it was a challenge, but I do appreciate it!
Tonight i didn’t feel like traveling to the grocery store, so I search high and low the food supply I had in the house.
Pan seared Tilapia, stewed turnips roots, roasted okra, 1/2 baked sweet potato, water and i had a taste of Coke Zero( opps!) Hubby had it and I gave in.
So you can guess what I will probably be eating the next few days.
I’m thinking about con tuning whole 30 through the week and eating a little differently on the weekend. I don’t want to mess up my progress. And oh yeah I have added a Zumba class.
What is the last date of the challenge?

    • Yep, the 30 days is definitely winding down. The last day is October 14th, which means the first day off of the challenge will be the 15th.

Way to go with finding compliant food in the home!

Also, look out for a post we will have up soon regarding how we plan to come off of the challenge. We plan on doing better than we have with diet changes in the past.
