So You Get a Cold…

So you get a cold.

Aw man.  You thought you felt that characteristic tickle in the back of your throat yesterday, but you figured it might have been something in the air instead.  Now you know it is turning into a full blown cold, because one of your nostrils feels like it is stuffed with cotton balls, the sneezes are steadily increasing in frequency and severity, and your head throbs with every one of those sneezes.

For some reason you have been getting colds frequently these days.  No worries, though…you know what to do.

You go to the medicine cabinet and get your assortment of weapons to “fight” the cold.  Among the medicines you have cough syrup, a painkiller and nasal spray.  Yes.  This way you will stop the cold before it starts, and you will be feeling better in no time…

Whoa, not so fast.  True, you might be feeling better, but are you really stopping the cold?  And to go further, are you really helping yourself get over the cold by suppressing the symptoms?

Check out this article I read by Dr. Ben Kim about why it is better to let the cold run its course rather than loading yourself with OTC drugs.  I hope this helps you now or in the future!
