I left my job to pursue wholeness

Yes, you read it correctly. I just recently left my job to “pursue wholeness.” I made very good money. I had great coworkers and a great supervisor. I was in a respectable profession – Electronics Engineering – and was often encouraged to move into a supervisory position. And yet, I left it.

Why? Well, to be honest, it’s complicated.

Why I left my job

There are a lot of reasons why I – excuse me, I and my wife – made this decision. Yes, family circumstances made it necessary that we have more flexibility than my job could provide. Yes, there was some level of discontentment with the job content at times. But if I could sum it up, I left my job because my wife and I desire to create a new existence for ourselves.

We desire the following things:

  • to live in a way that is not as prescribed as society leads us to live
  • time flexibility
  • the ability to more fully take care of our health than the hustle and bustle of 9-to-5 life allows
  • to spend quality time with our kids in their formative years.
  • to spend more time with other family and friends.
  • to always be in a great place mentally, free from all of the anxieties and business of modern-day life.

That is why I say that we are pursuing “wholeness (hence the name of our podcast, Pursuing Wholeness).”

There’s a lot more where this came from, which is why I recommend that you listen to the podcast episode (on Apple Podcasts or SoundCloud). I’m sure this will hardly be the last time I talk about this, not only because I have a lot to say, but also, because I strongly feel that I am not the only one out here who wants to – and sees the need to – live differently in this world. I may even write a book on this journey. We’ll see.
