Live an Active Lifestyle!

cleaning your bathtub counts as exercise

Look, I am a certified personal trainer. I actually like exercising…a lot.

However, I’ve said this before, and I will continue to say it: It’s not all about getting a “workout” in.

Because of the way we compartmentalize health and fitness in our society, we view “being active” as carving out a portion of every day to go to the gym or to do some type of exercise class. I like this kind of stuff, and I train people from time to time, but this type of thinking about fitness is limiting and detrimental.

The first thing you need to do is start living an active lifestyle. Find time to get a workout in, sure, but live an active life! Walk to your neighbor’s house, or to the store if it’s close by, instead of driving. Cut your grass with a pushmower. Clean your house. Help your friend with moving into their new house. Take the stairs.

The biggest issue with us as far as fitness is concerned is not that we don’t get in enough workouts. It’s that we are too sedentary because of the way we work and because of all of the conveniences we indulge in. It’s true.

Don’t complicate fitness. Live an active lifestyle!
